The Awesome Soccer Stars and Kickers were two soccer animes that aired on RTL 2 in the 90s. Both series revolve around the sport of soccer. But which of the two teams is ahead? MeinMMO clarifies this with an ultimate survey.
What is The Awesome Soccer Stars? There are only three years between Kickers and The Awesome Soccer Stars. The Awesome Soccer Stars first aired on Japanese television in 1983. In Germany, however, the series was only available on RTL 2 in 1995. The anime was produced by Toei Animation. The company is known for animes like Naruto and Dragon Ball.
The anime revolves around Captain Tsubasa, whose real name is Tsubasa Ohzora. He dreams of becoming a Japanese world champion in soccer. He begins his career at the local FC Nankatsu. However, as time goes on, he becomes so successful that he even competes for Japan in the World Cup in France. Later, he even moves to Spain.
In the meantime, Captain Tsubasa has even received a reboot:
What are the Kickers? In contrast, Kickers started in 1986 and was only visible in Germany in 1992. The focus is not as international as with Captain Tsubasa, as the team only plays against Japanese teams.
Gregor transfers to a new school in the anime. There, he meets the Kickers, a soccer team that simply has no success. With Gregor’s enthusiasm, the team struggles to climb up the soccer ladder. The Kickers competed against the “Teufelsdreier”, which MeinMMO has included in a video:
