The first Path of Exile lag behind the Diablo series, especially in one aspect: the presentation. With the intro to Path of Exile 2, that seems to have changed now.
Where can I see the intro? The developers Grinding Gear Games uploaded it on their official YouTube channel. In the almost 5-minute long intro, we see a group of fighters heading into a dark forest in search of an artifact.
You can also watch the intro to Path of Exile 2 here:
Spoiler warning: The search does not go well for our adventurers. After an unexpected twist, we are left with more questions than before. What kind of artifact is this? And why does the spirit that guarded it say humanity is not ready for it yet?
What are the reactions to the intro like? Many are amazed that Grinding Gear Games can actually produce such impressive cinematics. It’s certainly a surprise, but a welcome one, as the comments on YouTube show:
- FlammDumbFox: “Beautiful. I didn’t expect PoE 2 to have such a cinematic.”
- Lethmyr: “Insane quality. 5 minutes felt like seconds. Hype!!!”
An intro from the “golden age of video games”
Some users are transported back to the “good old Blizzard days” – specifically, Blizzard North – and the early 2000s. Blizzard North developed Diablo 1 and 2 but was closed down in 2005. The intro of Diablo 2 is particularly legendary.
- mbe102: “Damn, feels like the good old Blizzard North days.”
- LuciaFinstra: “Excellent! Even has an RPG feeling of the 2000s in the cinematics! Unlike some modern ‘hyper-real'”
- CobusGreyling: “Sorry, is this damn 2004? Is this the golden age of gaming again? What did I just see? I am SO hyped. Insanely high quality.”
Whether the intro to Path of Exile 2 truly matches that of the Diablo games is being discussed, but in the end, gameplay is what matters. The developers also have new content to show on that front.
In a developer stream, they give a first look at the endgame of Path of Exile 2. It’s said to be quite extensive even in Early Access. You can catch the stream on YouTube. Starting at minute 46:09, Game Director Mark Roberts talks in detail about the endgame.
Lastly, Path of Exile 2 showed in another gameplay video how you can elevate your damage to the next level. You can learn more about it in this article: New gameplay for Path of Exile 2 shows how to maximize the damage of your attacks
