The colorful MOBA Arena of Valor from China is hugely successful there. Publisher Tencent apparently aims to build on this success by developing its own MMORPG based on the MOBA.
What kind of MMORPG is it? The huge Chinese publisher Tencent and the associated studio TiMi have teased two new games. The first game has the codename Dawn Break and seems to be a 3D sidescroller RPG.
However, the other game seems more interesting for us MMORPG fans. It has the codename Journey Begins and is supposed to take place in the Universe of Arena of Valor. You can find the teaser for it here.
What is there to see about Journey Begins
What is there to see? The short teaser for Journey Begins shows a brief overview of the world and the gameplay. We see:
- Beautiful landscapes, from deserts to ruins, lush meadows and icy wastelands that a hero traverses.
- Later, a group of 5 heroes runs through the vegetation.
- One of the heroes appears to be a kind of fox creature with ears and a tail.
- Besides typical fantasy weapons, such as swords, the fox carries a kind of rifle.
- Another hero is a type of warrior with a large spear. With it, he seems to perform various special moves.
- The group not only runs along the ground, but in a picturesque gorge, the characters jump along the walls in the best anime style. Acrobatics seem to be part of it.
- At the end, the group faces a huge horned monster.
An interesting detail is that the image at the end is surrounded by the frame of a smartphone. The new MMORPG seems to be developed for mobile devices or possibly exclusively for them.
When is it coming out? There are no official details on the release yet.
Why the new game could rock: It is known that Arena of Valor provides the background for Journey Begins. Arena of Valor is immensely successful in China and even led the government to take action against it. Too many teenagers were addicted to the game.
The brand holds significant value in Asia, especially China. Therefore, the new game is likely to be a great success there. However, whether the game will be successful here is uncertain. Despite its great success in China, the Western version of Arena of Valor is considered a flop and was discontinued.
