The anime of Assassination Classroom features an iconic character as the main protagonist. The manga’s creator, Yusei Matsui, revealed in an interview how the unusual alien came to be.
Why is the main character an alien? Koro-sensei is an alien who teaches class 3-E for a year. He has a strikingly yellow skin tone, several tentacles, and a face consisting only of two small eyes and a gigantic mouth. He looks like a mix between an octopus and a human.
As Matsui reveals in an interview, he originally intended to use Koro-sensei in a different manga. However, since he never published that one, he was able to use the alien’s design for Assassination Classroom.
Moreover, he admits that he drew Koro-sensei out of laziness:
With a new manga, I knew it had to be simple. Simple, simple, simple. The easier it is, the more universally things are communicated. Besides the octopus, the other form I considered was a slimy blob. The reason for this is that both are very easy to draw. He has no joints and no hands to draw. As you can see, he has tentacles, so he is very easy to draw.
Almost, the beloved alien could have become a slimy blob, and that just because the manga artist wanted to make drawing as easy as possible.

What is Assassination Classroom about? An alien destroys 70% of the moon and is impossible to kill for humanity. The being threatens to destroy Earth next. However, it gives humanity the chance to avert this horrifying fate within a year.
The alien, henceforth known as Koro-sensei, wants to teach a class. The students must kill the alien within this year, otherwise the Earth will be destroyed. To do this, Koro-sensei even teaches the students how to commit good assassinations. Furthermore, he helps his students to improve in their regular subjects.
How good is the series? The anime is well received by fans. On MyAnimeList, the series has a rating of 8.08 out of 10. The comedy elements are particularly praised for giving the anime its personality.
