The Anime adaptation of Solo Leveling has climbed to the top of the Crunchyroll rankings, surpassing even One Piece. However, not everyone is thrilled about this success.
In which category is Solo Leveling leading? The success of Solo Leveling is currently undeniable in the anime world. The series has built up enormous hype in a short time, which not everyone on the MeinMMO team can understand.
On different rating platforms, the anime is rated above average. For example, on MyAnimeList, Solo Leveling has a rating of 8.66 / 10 and is thus in 69th place, which is a really good placement considering the large number of existing animes.
Now, Solo Leveling is the most rated anime series on Crunchyroll, with over 594,500 ratings.
For comparison:
- One Piece has about 594,400 ratings
- Demon Slayer has around 587,000 ratings

Why is this so impressive? Since Solo Leveling currently only includes 23 episodes, this is a super-fast rise. It is also interesting to see how different the path of Solo Leveling is compared to One Piece, which premiered in 1999 and has been available on Crunchyroll since 2013 – now with over 1,122 episodes.
However, the ranking is not about the most popular, but the most rated anime series. Therefore, a high number of ratings says nothing about the quality of the series.
Moreover, fans are viewing this development from a completely different perspective and remain skeptical.
“The number of ratings on Crunchyroll is meaningless”
What does the community say? Despite the great success of Solo Leveling, there are also critical voices in the community pointing out that new One Piece episodes will soon be released on Crunchyroll and could push Solo Leveling from the top spot. Because One Piece is currently on a break and since October 2024 is showing a remake of the Fishman Arc instead of new episodes.
A user on Reddit said: “I love both [animes], but wait until April when One Piece returns – weekly, both subbed and dubbed.”
Other users agreed and expressed concerns that the success of Solo Leveling cannot be compared to that of One Piece at all:
- Busy_Pineapple_6772: “Every new anime is always hyped as number one until the next anime comes. One Piece hasn’t aired any new episodes for almost 6 months and still maintains its position.”
- Vagabond_Sam: “One Piece is also available on Netflix, so ‘number 1 on Crunchyroll’ is only the case because not all One Piece fans are on the same platform. This is just an attention-grabbing slogan to promote Crunchyroll – not a serious benchmark.”
- GuardEcstatic2353: “The One Piece movie grossed 400 million dollars, while the Solo Leveling movie only made 5 million dollars. We really need to look at the reality. The number of ratings for exclusive productions from Crunchyroll and similar platforms is meaningless.”
What’s next? One Piece will return in April with new episodes on Crunchyroll. Many fans expect that this will bring a huge increase in ratings and popularity, and Solo Leveling might possibly lose its top position again. One thing is certainly sure: Solo Leveling has shaken up the anime world and will continue to spark many discussions in the future. Especially one episode recently caused a lot of excitement.
While Solo Leveling is causing a stir in the anime world, there is another series that is also drawing significant attention: Ash has always been 10 years old in the Pokémon anime, but that might finally change
