The huge Mauga could be the next Overwatch hero – Here is what we know

In a short story, Overwatch focuses on a new character in particular. It looks like there might soon be a Talon tank as a new hero!

Yesterday, Blizzard released a new short story for Overwatch to give the hero Baptiste a bit more backstory. A big part revolves around Baptiste’s guilt and his dilemma of working for Talon while wanting to do good. The story “Traces of the Past” cleverly shifts the focus to another character: Mauga, a member of Talon, who is described in detail.

Who is Mauga? Mauga is an active member of the criminal organization Talon and was in the same unit as Baptiste. He is a quite large and broad man, towering over others by a head. His black hair has a single white streak in the middle, dividing his hairstyle like a lightning bolt. Although he is very charismatic and a cheerful guy, he loves exerting violence and enjoys getting lost in gunfights that are “a lot of fun” for him.

What abilities does Mauga have? The short story describes Mauga’s abilities quite well and provides clues for a potential playable character. Accordingly, Mauga will likely be a tank due to his size, which also fits his role in the story. His additional equipment includes:

A powerful “power armor” that further enhances him, with cooling tanks on his back
A strong shield
Dual submachine guns, each “as big as a man”

How likely is Mauga? Whether the story is really a teaser for Mauga as the next hero or if Blizzard is leading the fans on a false trail again remains to be seen.

But it seems that players will soon also get a “Talon tank.” This is something fans have been wanting for a long time.

Apart from the information about Mauga, reading the short story is worthwhile in itself. It gives the (so far) somewhat boring character of Baptiste significantly more depth.
