Throne and Liberty (PC, PS5) is an upcoming MMORPG set to be released later this year. The developers recently announced that the final test is running – with 100 participants.
Throne and Liberty is developed by the studio NCSoft and is expected to be a large AAA game that aims to impress with action-packed combat.
In addition, the weather system in the MMORPG is said to play a very special role and not only affect the game environment but also your character. Monsters, dungeons, and your skills change depending on the weather and time of day.
Originally, the game was called Lineage Eternal, but it was completely revamped in 2017 and received a new title. After years of development, Throne and Liberty is now set to have its release within the next few months, in the first half of 2023.

The final test with more than 100 people
Recently, there was news regarding the last test phase of the game.
On Twitter, a post was published on the official account on February 20, 2023, where the developers announced:
“The final test of the MMORPG #ThroneandLiberty with no less than 100 players will soon begin and will last until February 22.
In addition, a media test will take place on February 23. Some information will be published in the coming days.”
Why is this curious? For a game that currently represents a huge hope for MMORPG fans, where a surge of up to several hundred thousand players is quite conceivable, 100 seems to be a rather small number of testers – especially since this is stressed so much.
This doesn’t even seem sufficient to see how the game is supposed to work with a single full server, for example, to observe:
- What is the surge like in starting areas when players flood in?
- Do initial problems arise when several hundred people are simultaneously stuck on a quest?
- Not to mention: How does the game perform under full load?
Experience has shown that problems arise only with masses of players that the development team could not foresee. And the release of Throne and Liberty is imminent.
According to The Korea Times, Choi Moon-young, the Chief Development Manager of NC Soft, stated that the final test serves to check the quality of the game and to directly address users’ questions.
Throne and Liberty already had a beta test ahead of time, the highlights of which are shown in a YouTube video – however, this took place internally.
What about the server structure? Throne and Liberty is expected to have multiple servers available per region, accommodating 3,000-5,000 players. This places the game between New World (2,000) and Lost Ark (around 20,000).
When is the release of Throne and Liberty? A specific date has not yet been announced. However, the release is expected to occur in the first half of 2023.
