While the Netflix documentary “The Fantastic Life of Ibelin” can hope for an Oscar nomination, the WoW guild Starlight must endure another heavy loss.
What kind of loss is this? Several Norwegian news websites report that last week, Kai Simon Fredriksen passed away. Fredriksen was the founder and leader of the WoW guild Starlight, which also included Mats “Ibelin” Steen – a boy who found real friends and beautiful moments in his virtual life in Azeroth, while his real life was a constant agony.
Based on the fate of Mats, who suffered from Duchenne muscular dystrophy (more about the disease on Wikipedia), and his parents, the Netflix documentary “The Fantastic Life of Ibelin” premiered on October 25, 2024, featuring Kai Simon Fredriksen and other members of Starlight.
As the production has a good chance of receiving an Oscar nomination for the category “Best Documentary”, the “Ibelin” team actually planned to meet on Thursday to celebrate the event. It is now clear that Kai Simon Fredriksen will not be there. He was only 46 years old and is said to have suffered from depression.
