The most damage in Overwatch is done by DPS heroes like Soldier 76, Pharah, and Zenyatta. Don’t you believe it? Overwatch pro Sung-hyeon “JJonak” Bang proves that Zenyatta is more than just a healing ball-throwing machine.
Those competing in the Overwatch League belong to the Overwatch elite and play far better than the majority of gamers. In this eSports event, the pros show what they are truly made of and consistently perform at their peak. They fully utilize the potential of many heroes.
This is especially proven by support player Sung-hyeon “JJonak” Bang, who plays for New York Excelsior with his signature hero Zenyatta. He plays the Omnic monk not just as a pure healer but as a killing machine, able to outdamage DPS players.
JJonak Cleans Up the Overwatch League with Zenyatta
New York Excelsior currently leads the standings by a large margin. With 16 wins to 2 losses, they are 3 victories ahead of second-placed London Spitfire. The team owes its strength primarily to its calculated yet aggressive play style.
The Koreans take every opportunity to heat things up for their opponents and pressure them. Even their support players contribute to this – and have already perfected this tactic. In the match against the Houston Outlaws, at the start of the Overwatch League, JJonak showed his skill.
On Junkertown, the first map, JJonak was the player with the third-highest damage and the most damage in his team. He dealt 24% of the total damage to the opposing team. On the following map, he even outperformed the opponents and topped the list.
Why Is JJonak So Good?
For the Korean eSports star, Zenyatta is not just a healer. He sees him as a powerhouse with much more potential yet to be unlocked. His team helps him fully realize this potential.
To achieve this, he sometimes receives healing and protection that are normally reserved for DPS players. While other teams use Zenyatta as a helper for Tracer or Pharah, JJonak receives support from his support colleague Ark to take down enemies.
Furthermore, there’s a considerable amount of experience with the hero and the game. JJonak uses the full charge of his alternate attack to anticipate and intercept enemy movements.
The entire focus of his gameplay is to achieve exactly that with Zenyatta. It happens that teammates stand right next to him, threatening to die. But when JJonak is preparing a kill, that takes priority over healing – and the team plays along.
