On Twitch, there are more than 7 million active streamers, but only a select few, like MontanaBlack or xQc, make it big. Now, there are tips from the boss himself on how to succeed on Twitch.
Who is the boss of Twitch? Dan Clancy became CEO of Twitch in 2023 and immediately faced a host of challenges. Many content creators were dissatisfied with the streaming platform and felt insufficiently supported.
They say Twitch is “out of touch”, too far removed from the people. Recently, Clancy also admitted that the platform is simply not profitable.
However, the Twitch boss is eager to address these problems. He is making himself much more approachable than other CEOs, streams himself on Twitch, and also collaborates with other streamers. In an interview with YouTuber Karat, Clancy talked about how to succeed as a streamer.
Many dream of a career like his when they start streaming. The Canadian xQc was the number 1 on Twitch for a long time:
Tips from the boss himself
What advice does the boss give? According to Dan Clancy, the best way to grow on Twitch is to collaborate with other streamers. This seems to have been understood by the top level of German Twitch, as there are increasingly large events where as many creators as possible are gathered.
If the colleagues do not show their appreciation, some can get really angry.
But nepotism alone is not enough. The Twitch boss further explains how important it is to stay committed: “Creating a channel and building a following, building a community requires perseverance.”
You can’t just say, “I’m going to do this on Tuesday this week, then again in a month, and then I’ll do it in 4 months,” Clancy says. You can watch the entire interview here, the topic comes up at 47:01.
How does it look for the boss himself? Dan Clancy at least follows one of his own pieces of advice and regularly appears with other streamers. However, regarding his regular streams, there is still room for improvement, as the CEO is on air only an average of one and a half times a week (via TwitchTracker). Is that enough to build a community?
At least, Clancy has 33,800 followers on Twitch and averaged 407 viewers over the last 3 months (via TwitchTracker). When asked about that, he reveals a third secret to success: First, you have to become the boss of Twitch.
That the tips from the Twitch boss do indeed work is shown by the Luxembourgish streamer “LetsHugo”. He streamed almost daily on Twitch for 4 years and celebrated his great breakthrough when he landed appearances in formats of already established streamers: He dropped out of school after the 9th grade and is now one of the biggest streamers on German Twitch: This is LetsHugo
