Who is it about? Johan Pilestedt is the Creative Director of Helldivers 2 and the CCO (Chief Commercial Officer) of Arrowhead Game Studios. Until May 22, 2024, Pilestedt was the CEO of the studio, but he demoted himself after issues arose between the publisher Sony and the community.
Pilestedt is still regarded as the Chief by the community, particularly due to his good communication with players. However, it seems he has had enough now.

How is the Chief doing? Johan Pilestedt seems to have had enough of the Helldivers brand. As he explains on X.com, he has been working on the Helldivers brand since 2013. Initially with the first part and since early 2016 on Helldivers 2.
In these 11 years, he has sacrificed many aspects of his private life, including family, friends, and even his wife, for whom he often had little time. He emphasizes that he now wants to take the time to make up for what he has lost. Therefore, the Helldivers Chief will take a sabbatical, which he dedicates to those who have supported him over the years.
What will change after his return? Johan Pilestedt wants to start working on a new game for Arrowhead Game Studios upon his return. This also means a new brand, as it seems Johan Pilestedt has had enough of the bug aliens after 11 years for the time being.
What’s next for Helldivers 2? The development of Helldivers 2 is unlikely to be affected by Johan Pilestedt’s leave. He himself believes that his colleagues at Arrowhead Game Studios will continue to produce good work and deliver updates without him.
