In Destiny 2, the first Guardian has now managed to meet the requirements to break the curse in the Dreaming City. However, nothing has happened since then.
What is the mystery about? For some time, the community has been puzzling over how the curse in the Dreaming City can be broken. This is currently the biggest mystery in Destiny 2.
The most common theory is based on the lore entry “act/choose/react.” It states: “Reach Light Level 999 and defeat Dul Incaru in a solo strike to unlock the true ending of the Dreaming City.”
So the requirements are:
- Reach power level 999
- Defeat the final boss of the dungeon “Shattered Throne” – and do it solo

Even though some players are passionately working towards this goal – until recently, no one had met these requirements – it was not possible at all before Shadowkeep. Accordingly, many Guardians have eagerly awaited what will happen next.
What has happened in the last few hours? In the past hours, things have started to move significantly. Two Guardians approached the magic power level 999:
Bagel reached 999 a few hours before Zupah, as Zupah had bad luck with the RNG.
To let the entire community participate in this event, Bagel initially offered the exceptional player Gladd from the Redeem clan to use his account to complete the curse breaking in the Shattered Throne. He himself does not feel particularly comfortable in this dungeon.
After some back and forth (Gladd had apparently agreed but wanted to play with Zupah, who declined) Gladd and Bagel agreed that Bagel would play himself and Gladd would coach him through the activity. The whole thing was then streamed on Gladd’s Twitch channel.
And indeed: With Gladd’s support, Bagel was ultimately able to master the Shattered Throne and defeat the boss Dul Incaru solo. The requirements to break the curse are finally fulfilled.
Power level 999 reached, boss defeated – and now? Many were eagerly waiting to see what would happen next. After all, a lot was expected from this moment.
But absolutely nothing happened – not after the mission timer expired, not after the flight into orbit, and not after a visit to Petra Venj in the Dreaming City itself.
Fans currently have no choice but to keep speculating:
- Some believe that they may have to wait until the next reset.
- Others say that Bungie possibly waited until someone actually succeeded before implementing changes in the game to not spoil anything prematurely in the data – maybe a new storyline is coming.
- Still others think that there could now be an exclusive emblem from Bungie or that nothing happens at all, and the developers simply trolled the fans.
It remains exciting around the curse of the Dreaming City. We will keep an eye on the situation and inform you about new developments.
What do you think? Will anything still happen? Or has Bungie fooled the players? By the way, this is still officially planned for the ongoing Season 8:
