The Walking Dead is one of the most popular zombie series of all time, which now consists of several spin-offs. Above all, the deaths of many characters fascinated viewers. But one event would even reverse the great villain of the series.
Since its launch in 2010, The Walking Dead has not only become a popular series but a major franchise. There are now 7 spin-offs:
- The Walking Dead ran for 11 seasons from 2010 to 2022
- Fear the Walking Dead ran for 8 seasons from 2015 to 2023
- World Beyond ran for 2 seasons from 2020 to 2021
- Tales of the Walking Dead ran for 1 season from 2022 to 2023
- Dead City started in 2023, has had 2 seasons so far
- Daryl Dixon started in 2023, has had 2 seasons so far
- The Ones Who Live for 1 season in 2024
Some of these spin-offs deal with supporting characters from the main series. Among them is also Dead City, which focuses on Negan, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Maggie, played by Lauren Cohan.
Negan is one of the most famous villains of the series because he was responsible for the deaths of some fan favorites right from his first appearance. But he would change one today.
Would have made both our lives easier
What does Jeffrey Dean Morgan say about it? In a video from First We Feast on YouTube, Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan answered some questions about the franchise and their characters. Right at the beginning, Morgan is supposed to name a storyline from the series that should never have happened.
After some deliberation and joking that the showrunner is watching, he names the death of the character Glenn Rhee, played by Steven Yeun. He explains that it would have made the lives of both actors easier. Although it would have changed the story, Cohan’s character would not have hated Negan so much. Morgan emphasizes that he probably would have died some other way.
What happens with Glenn’s death? The first episode of season 7 (The Day Will Come
), which premiered in October 2016, follows a strong cliffhanger. In the finale of season 6, it is hinted that someone from the hero group dies, but it is not clear who. The premiere of season 7 then shows how the villain Negan kills. This was also shown quite explicitly and for a long time.
How was the episode received by fans? The episode itself is rated quite well. On IMDb, the episode is among the highest-rated of the series. However, some do not see Glenn’s death as positively. Under a post on x.com, some users write that the series went downhill after this death.
Also on Reddit there are posts that make such a thesis.
What does MeinMMO editor Nikolas Hernes say about it? I was a big fan of The Walking Dead, but from season 8 on, the series lost me too. But I don’t think Glenn would have changed anything.
The Walking Dead worked mainly through the drama and the constant threat that beloved characters could die. However, that becomes tiring over time, especially with a series that runs for so long. Many subplots simply became unexciting. One became saturated with zombies and drama.
But what do you think about it? Did you continue watching The Walking Dead after Glenn’s death, or was the series done for you afterwards? Feel free to let us know in the comments. Also, Rick
