At this year’s Skulls event, new information about the next DLC for Total War: Warhammer 3 was announced on Steam and in the Epic Games Store. The second of the three factions included in the DLC is now also known, and fans are excited about the selection.
What new information is there? In a brief one-minute teaser, developer Creative Assembly (short CA) shows one of the three new legendary commanders. Additionally, the name of the DLC is now officially revealed: Tides of Torment.

Who is this new commander? It is Sayl the Faithless. He is a wizard who will enhance the ranks of Norsca in Total War: Warhammer 3. They are best described as fantasy Vikings who march into battle with bloodthirsty berserkers and gigantic war mammoths.
The teaser shows a pivotal moment from Sayl’s backstory: A cloaked Sayl is seen interrupting a magical ritual and summoning a monstrous creature.
- The wizards whose ritual Sayl disturbs are Schalkain the Vile and his three apprentices
- They were compelled by Sayl to perform a demonic ritual, which he manipulated, leading to Schalkain’s death
- From the bodies of the apprentices, Sayl created a terrible Chaos spawn called “Nightmaw”
Long-neglected faction finally gets love
How are fans reacting to the teaser? Many players are excited in the comments under the YouTube video that CA is giving Norsca a bit more love.

The Norsca have hardly changed mechanistically since Total War: Warhammer and therefore struggle against many of the newer factions. The hope of many fans is that the developers will give them a proper rework and bring their mechanics up to date.
What Tides of Torment has in store for Norsca will be revealed today at 4:00 PM. The next Dev Chat video will be released on the official YouTube channel for Total War.
So far, only two factions from the new DLC are known. In addition to Sayl the Faithless, Dechala, “the Exiled,” has already been announced. She is a servant of Slaanesh, the Chaos God of Decadence, Pleasure, and Excess.
