With Shadowlands, many professions in World of Warcraft undergo a major overhaul. Numerous recipes from the past return, similar to how the returning class abilities have done.
In general, professions are to be assigned a higher value again. They are once again more interdependent, and each individual profession is meant to have a greater impact on the game.

General Changes to Professions
What’s new? One of the biggest changes is the optional crafting materials. With these, you can determine the properties of crafted items, trigger additional effects, or alter the item level.
Additionally, crafting professions are generally becoming more relevant again. In Shadowlands, there is the possibility to craft legendary items. However, you need “blank armor pieces” that are crafted by the various professions. These are intended to ensure that professions generate gold for you throughout the entire addon.
You can also find journals, for example, when killing monsters, when completing world quests. With the journals (Eng. “Journals”), you have the opportunity to gather skill points faster. One journal can be read per week, granting you 5 skill points (via wowhead).
