The “Corrupted Blood” incident from World of Warcraft remained in the players’ memories for years. Now it is becoming its own Hearthstone card.
In World of Warcraft, there have always been bugs or incidents that remained in the minds of players even after years. One of them was “the Great Plague” during Classic, which wiped out entire capitals. This incident is now honored in Hearthstone with a special card that triggers a similar effect.
What happened in World of Warcraft? At the time of the raid Zul’Gurub, players could fight Hakkar the Soulflayer. This inflicted the debuff “Corrupted Blood” on players and their pets. This debuff deals high damage and spreads to other nearby characters.
Hunters accidentally managed to keep the debuff on their pets and carry it into the capitals. There, the Corrupted Blood continued to spread and quickly killed entire cities. The bug was fixed only after nearly a week in which the cities of Ironforge and Orgrimmar were literally “extinct”.
By the way, Hakkar was also one of our 5 exciting NPCs who deserved more story.
Hakkar in Hearthstone: In Hearthstone, Hakkar the Soulflayer will be a neutral, legendary minion for 10 mana. Although he has weak stats of 9/6, he has a dangerous deathrattle effect: A copy of “Corrupted Blood” is shuffled into both players’ decks.
What does Corrupted Blood do? Corrupted Blood is a spell that is automatically played as soon as it is drawn. It deals 3 damage to the hero who draws the card. Additionally, the spell shuffles two more copies of Corrupted Blood into the deck. The plague continues to spread and eventually leads to the death of one of the two players.
Is Hakkar playable? Whether Hakkar the Soulflayer is truly “viable” remains to be seen. After all, not only the opponent receives the Corrupted Blood, but a copy is also shuffled into your own deck. Those who have not taken safety measures, such as a well-filled deck, could ultimately die from their own plague.
In any case, it’s cool that the developers of Hearthstone are honoring this ancient WoW incident in the game. Whether the card will actually be used, we will see next month – when Rastakhan’s Rumble is released.
