One Piece is getting a new German dubbing on Netflix. Many of the old voice actors are back, and they want to start from the beginning. But not everything remains the same, and especially a name change is causing dissatisfaction.
What is the new dubbing about? As the YouTuber Ninotaku announced on 22.10.2025, the original anime of One Piece will receive a new dubbing on Netflix. For fans of the German dubbing, there are also many positive updates:
- Many of the familiar voices are expected to lend their voices to the well-known characters again.
- The old episodes will receive an HD version with better resolution.
- They are starting over, so from the beginning of the journey.
Starting from November 15, 2025, the first 16 episodes will premiere on Netflix. Ninotaku himself is even involved as a consultant for the new dubbing.
But some details are also set to change. As Ninotaku explained in his original statement, some names, terms, and pronunciations in the new dubbing will be adjusted to match the Japanese original. The German Ruffy
will become Luffy
. This is not well-received by many fans.

How is the community reacting to the new dubbing? Under a X post from Ninotaku, the biggest issue seems to be the name change from Ruffy. Many fans find it unfortunate because they have grown up with it for so long.
Not only the anime series, but also the manga and the live-action series use the name Ruffy
in the German version. Users like @Esartar86 (x.com) do not even want to watch the new dubbing because of the name change.
How is Ninotaku responding to the critical voices? In a longer statement on x.com, the German creator elaborated on the shitstorm
. He explains that he can understand the fans’ dissatisfaction, especially since they have known the name for over 20 years in Germany.
They did try to talk to the Japanese licensor, but they could not be persuaded. According to Ninotaku, Toei wants to create a uniformity. He asks fans not to judge too quickly and not to blame the dubbing team: Some things exceed our authority and many matters we simply cannot discuss publicly

For those who are not interested in a new dubbing, there is good news: The streaming service Animation Digital Network (ADN) has announced that starting from 13.11.2025, the old episodes with the original anime dubbing will be available to stream. It is also set to start with the East Blue
arc. Thus, the old version will also be accessible again.
