On Reddit, a user shares a picture of a microwave with the community. However, the special thing about it is the interior of the kitchen appliance. A gamer has installed his hardware components in it and uses it as a PC case.
In the past, PC cases were purely functional. Beige was the dominant, but also dull color of most towers under desks. The design usually played a secondary role. In the meantime, this has fundamentally changed. Gaming PCs look stylish nowadays. Often, glass side panels are installed to showcase the interior. However, one should pay attention to certain things when handling glass side panels.
PC builders go even further and repurpose ordinary household items for their creative PC constructions. What an old microwave has to do with a gaming PC, we will show you in this post.
“The game even runs on a microwave” – When kitchen appliance and gaming meet
Why is the photo of the microwave so curious? A builder had the creative idea to convert the kitchen appliance into a PC case. In further pictures, you can clearly see the motherboard, the graphics card, and especially the brightly glowing RGB fans. Standing on a wall shelf, this brilliant construction draws all the attention. Another user prefers to hang old motherboards on the wall instead of a microwave.
Post creator “MeanCoach” named the assembly “GameWave” (microwave, English for microwave). Comments like “The game even runs on a microwave” weren’t long in coming.
How was the issue of the connection cables resolved? Unfortunately, there are no pictures of the back or side panels to look at the solution in detail. However, upon closer inspection, you can see that the owner made an opening in the side panel in the area of the graphics card connections. At this point, all necessary cables are routed outside and then behind the microwave.
Can the system be used this way without concerns? “MeanCoach” did not provide any information about the hardware used in his post. The more powerful individual components are, the more heat they generate. In regular PC cases, fans are given fixed mounting points. Usually, you can easily vary the number and arrangement. But with correct installation, it’s always ensured that the resulting airflow cools the installed hardware.
This case mod (in English: case and modification) has several fans according to the pictures. However, it cannot be concluded how well the airflow works within the construction. With too much heat development, individual components could become too hot. Due to excessively high temperatures, the system could become unstable and, in the worst case, even crash.
The microwave gaming PC should therefore be seen more as a funny idea. Anyone spending a lot of money on performance hardware is definitely better off with a proper case and adequate cooling.
