In WoW, everyone has done a few silly things. Some players reveal which (in hindsight) foolish actions they took.
No one is born a pro-gamer. Especially in MMORPGs, there are often many different aspects that newbies haven’t figured out yet. Mistakes often happen, or behaviors are adopted that later turn out to be completely ridiculous.
On Reddit, the user zAsdf677 called for discussions about the most embarrassing and dumbest actions players did at the start in World of Warcraft. We have selected and translated some excerpts for you:
“I thought the rest bonus only applied if you finished the game with ‘/sleep’.” – Sounds somewhat logical, right? Only who sleeps is also rested!
“I kept a gray rabbit’s foot in my inventory because I somehow thought it would improve my loot.” – Gray items of course have no effect on loot luck – but a little superstition sometimes helps.
“My ex-boyfriend (now husband) introduced me to WoW and gave me 2 gold so my character could have an easy start. I went to the auction house and first bought a squirrel.” – At least it might have helped with well-being.
“When I died for the first time, I thought ‘5 minutes until release’ meant that my character’s soul was forever lost and he would stay dead. I died once far enough away from a graveyard that I deleted my character because I thought I wouldn’t reach him in time anyway.”
“As a rogue, I always jumped because I saw that I left footprints in the snow while stealthed and thought others could see them.”
“I always rolled need because I didn’t want to be greedy.” This has confused quite a few players. How is one to understand that “Greed” is less “greedy” than Need?
“I accidentally pressed ‘/’, which activated ‘Walk’ for my character when I received the message ‘You are no longer rested’. It took me a few days to realize that you can also run without being rested.” We should all be glad that this feature never made it into the game.
The absolute “winner” of the whole action is Quicksilvered, who reveals:
“On my first character, I accidentally zoomed all the way in and couldn’t figure out how to reverse it, so I deleted the character and created a new one.” Understandable, as at the launch of World of Warcraft, not all PC mice had a scroll wheel.
To share a bit of my own story:
On my first character (mage), I only bought the spell Polymorph at level 60 when someone pointed it out to me in Scholomance. Until then, I saw no use for why one would turn something into a sheep.
Did you also do a few things that seem embarrassing or stupid to you in hindsight?
