Currently, there are a plethora of “Battle Royale” games. However, some games stand out with a unique twist or an interesting simplification. Such a game is Bombergrounds: Battle Royale. The game has everything a good Battle Royale requires, but simplifies many aspects to the best parts of this genre: Fast, entertaining fun.
What is Bombergrounds: Battle Royale? Anyone who has played one of the old “Bomberman” titles knows roughly which direction Bombergrounds is heading. The battlefield consists of a large area divided into blocks. Some blocks are blocked by rocks or water, creating impassable terrain.
The goal is to eliminate all other players on the battlefield using bombs.
Gradually, the playing field gets smaller as the outer rows of blocks disappear. In the end, exciting battles are inevitable, as there is little space left to navigate on a 10×10 area.
How do the bombs work? In Bombergrounds, the bombs function similarly to those in the Bomberman games. They are ignited and then explode in a fixed pattern. Typically, they trigger a cross-shaped explosion that damages 3 blocks in all 4 directions. If a player is hit by an explosion, they are immediately eliminated.
However, there are some modifications in the Steam game that make it exciting and fast-paced:
- The players can throw their bombs, pushing them a few blocks away.
- Bombs stop when they hit walls.
- If a bomb is caught in the explosion of another bomb, it also explodes immediately.
- Your own bombs can damage their creator if they are hit by the explosion.
- You have unlimited bombs, but only a small stock that regenerates over time.
What makes Bombergrounds: Battle Royale so special? On the one hand, it is easy to give the game a chance – as it is free to play like many “Battle Royale” games. On the other hand, Bombergrounds ensures that the game is also suitable for players who typically do not engage with Battle Royale, thanks to its more minimalist style. After all, you do not shoot with weapons here, which eliminates the need for aiming. Moreover, the frantic search for good loot, as seen in Fortnite, is also absent.
Finally, the matches are also very fast due to the significantly smaller battlefield. In case of a defeat, you don’t have to wait long, which noticeably reduces frustration.
