Running as a tank, damage dealer, and healer through an MMO world of League of Legends (LoL) would be a dream for many players. A new map and a tweet bring hope.
Huge map: The creators of the famous MOBA League of Legends have designed a map that captures the key points of the lore. From the frozen Freljord in the north to the deserts of Shurima in the south, you can get an insight into the regions of LoL.
Template for an MMO? Many players have long seen the potential for an MMO in LoL. This huge map with various zones could serve as a template for areas where players can complete quests or engage in PvP battles. Even LoL founder Marc “Tryndamere” Merrill is interested in this idea and is asking the community what they think.
Lore has always been important
The champions in League of Legends have, just like the maps, a story. Everything is interconnected and explained in announcements of new champions or maps. With the new map, the explanation of the lore goes a step further, illustrating to fans the stories behind the fighters and locations.
You can access the Runeterra map at map.leagueoflegends.com. There you can explore the world of Runeterra.
Lore at a glance: By zooming in on the map, you learn about important places in LoL. For example, Mount Targon, which is associated with Zoe, Taric, and Leona. Here you can read all the stories and have the information at a glance.
Is a LoL MMO the next project?
The map is a feast for lore fans. But it could also be the foundation for something much larger than a lore reference.
Founding members want to make more games: LoL founders Brandon “Ryze” Beck and Marc “Tryndamere” Merrill have already announced they want to develop games again. They want to finally give meaning to the “s” in Riot Games. What that will be is still unknown. It could be an MMO.
Recently, founder Marc Merrill tweeted the link to the LoL map and asked fans: Should we build an MMO? Yes or no?
Hope: This is no concrete information about an MMO, but it gives fans and players hope. They write in the replies that they would be thrilled about it. TeamLiquid’s Doublelift and ex-pro Scarra write that Marc Merrill shouldn’t play with their feelings like that. Apparently, they also want concrete information.
Positive feedback: As replies, one reads mostly excitement. Players would be excited to play an MMO with the well-known characters like Teemo, Caitlyn, Dr. Mundo, and many more.
There would indeed be enough foundation for an MMO – would you be on board?
