In Fortnite: Battle Royale, there is a new mode called Food Fight since the last update. According to some fans, it is what has always been wished for PvP in Fortnite.
What is the new mode? The Food Fight came to the game with Update 6.30 and escalates the long-simmering conflict between Burger and Pizza in Fortnite. The goal is to destroy the opposing mascot.
You have 5 minutes before the game starts to secure your restaurant with the mascot. After that, it continues until either the Burger or the Pizza remains.
How many players are involved? The Food Fight is only played between two teams of 12. There are respawns. If you die, you start again with full equipment in seven seconds from the sky. Upon death, 30% of the collected ammunition and resources are left behind.
What other special features are there? You should quickly go to the restaurant, as the storm begins shortly after the game starts. However, you can still use the glider again.
The final battle zone is quite small and the two restaurants are positioned closely opposite each other. Additionally, there are no explosive weapons.
“Fortnite PvP, as it should always be”
This is how the new mode plays out: According to the website Polygon, the Food Fight is basically what many players thought back when it was first announced that there would be a PvP mode for Fortnite: 2 teams build a fortress and then kill each other for the rest of the match and blast everything to bits.
Is this still Battle Royale? This is about how a round of Food Fight goes. It’s chaotic, but some players find their roles in between and can try out completely new tactics:
- Some stay in the base and rebuild destroyed walls.
- Others crouch with sniper rifles on high ramps and towers. From there, they snipe opposing builders and the immensely strong turrets.
- Still others go as sneaky ninjas on the prowl and sneak into the generic base with shotguns and other melee weapons. There, they disrupt the opposing game flow with nasty sabotage actions.
With Food Fight, Fortnite thus becomes less of a Battle Royale game and more of a traditional PvP shooter, in which each player plays a role and participates until everything is over. This leads to a completely different pace and gameplay.
This is how the mode is currently received
The press is thrilled: The new mode is highly praised by the specialized press. On the site Kotaku, the author has a lot of fun filling different gameplay roles and sneaking into enemy restaurants to cause chaos.
He also praises the new gameplay focus: You don’t just build for yourself, but collectively construct a protective wall.
Fans like it but see potential for improvement: The new mode is generally well received among players as well. They praise the colorful chaos where they can just shoot around for fun and not land back in the lobby after one mistake.
However, some weaknesses of the new mode are known that spoil the overall experience:
- Many players still build and fight for themselves and do not care about teamwork.
- Every player wears a burger or tomato head. However, they look quite similar in the heat of battle, and often friends and foes are confused.
- Some rounds quickly degenerate into a wild rush on the opposing base, and in front of each respective mascot, guns are blazing. Whoever deals more damage wins.
- The turrets, which are very common in this mode, are extremely powerful. Often, a team wins by capturing opposing turrets and blasting the mascot. Some players find that quite annoying.
Despite all the flaws, the mode is still well received and players seem to enjoy the wild chaos. However, to really rock it, Epic should make a few changes to encourage more team play.
How do you find the new mode?
