In Fortnite, the new flying island is apparently activating the runes. Last night, the island reached a rune for the first time, changing the world a bit.
The cube is now an island: Interdimensional rifts formed a space cube in Season 5 of Fortnite. It then rolled slowly across the map, marking mysterious runes on the map, until it sank in Loot Lake.
In Season 6, the Loot Lake rose into an island that can fly. The slow cube has thus become a hovering island, and it will likely activate the runes.
On Sunday, we speculated: What will happen when the island reaches the first rune? Now we know.
What it means for players
This is what happened: Last night, the island arrived at a target for the first time: The rune was located west of Loot Lake. When the island reached its target, it created purple craters in the area. Players can jump off from them.
A kind of volcanic landscape has formed. The volcanoes seem to be blowing the “corruption” into the world. Additionally, a piece of the area with the rune has been pulled upward, creating a smaller flying island there.

It is now possible for players:
- to use these volcanoes as launch pads – making the areas interesting
- and to land on the “smaller island” with the rune. Here you can see that there is even a treasure chest waiting
The island reached the first rune and changed it four days after the start of Season 6. It will be interesting to see what happens when it reaches the next six runes. After the space cube took so much time in Season 5, it seems to be starting faster now.
Map changes in Season 6 continue
Other strange things are happening: As players report, this is not the only map change in Fortnite. Apparently, smaller purple cubes are now appearing under the house on the flying island.
Yesterday, we reported on the island and speculated what it all means:
