It has been more than 3 weeks since the launch of Destiny 2 Beyond Light. Enough time to get a comprehensive picture of it. What do you think of the new expansion? Has your opinion changed since the launch?
What is Beyond Light all about? Beyond Light or Jenseits des Lichts is the 3rd major expansion for Destiny 2. The add-on also represents the first of 3 interconnected annual expansions, with which Bungie intends to continue Destiny 2 at least until 2022.
Beyond Light launched very successfully on November 10, but initially caused some frustration and criticism. But now, more than 3 weeks have passed, and a lot has happened. How do you view the new expansion now?
The community still sees Beyond Light as divided
This was the mood at launch: Although the launch was extremely successful, Beyond Light did not go smoothly at all. The launch was marked by technical issues, and many couldn’t play properly on the first day. Afterwards, numerous PC players also complained about performance issues.
However, the add-on itself was also quickly criticized. The weapon sunset was felt in full force and was not well received at all. Many previous weapons and armors became practically useless, while there simply wasn’t enough new loot to compensate for it.
The removal of numerous old content such as locations or activities was also criticized. Generally, Beyond Light offered too little new, too little innovative, said some players back then. Also, for suboptimal balancing of the new Stasis powers in PvP and numerous bugs, Destiny 2 faced criticism.
However, there was also praise, for example for the story of Beyond Light, the new location Europa, new Exotics, or the Stasis power in PvE.
In short: Beyond Light was received with mixed feelings, even if the initial mood felt rather negative. In a survey shortly after the launch, MeinMMO captured the first opinion from you. This was how the mood looked back then:

This is how the mood is currently: A lot has happened in the meantime. Bungie has responded to the biggest criticism of Sunsetting, bringing some weapons out of retirement and thereby expanding the loot pool that many found too small. New activities and quests have gone live, and new Exotics like the Sniper Cloudstrike or the Sword The Complaint can now be earned, and the new raid has opened its doors.
Looking at the mood now, it feels better than at the launch of the new add-on. However, the player community still views Beyond Light with mixed feelings. Some, like MeinMMO shooter expert Sven Galitzki, have fun and find that the expansion is well done – even if it didn’t immediately show everything it had to offer. Others, however, feel disappointed or disillusioned and complain that Beyond Light does some things well but also makes many mistakes and ultimately offers too little for the money.
In short: Although the mood now feels better than at launch after more than 3 weeks – Beyond Light is still being discussed passionately and controversially. There is still praise, but also some harsh criticism.
