Since June 5, the first raid in Warcraft Rumble is playable: the Molten Core. The raid and its iconic final boss Ragnaros are likely to be well remembered by any veteran of World of Warcraft. And even those who didn’t see him back then probably know at least the legends surrounding the raid.
What kind of raid is this?
- The Molten Core is one of the first two raids for 40 players in World of Warcraft. The raid has been available since the game’s release and still causes surprising and tragic wipes even today.
- Back then, players had to earn access, which could take a while. Ragnaros, the final boss of the core, is still the hardest boss of all time in WoW.
- The Molten Core was iconic at the time as the first raid of its scale – and for its loot. Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker is still a meme today.
What’s new in Rumble: You can enter the Molten Core since June 5 in Warcraft Rumble. The raid has 7 bosses in Rumble, including the well-known figures Lucifron, Garr, Baron Geddon, and of course Ragnaros. Shazzrah and Gehennas are present as duo bosses in the game, while Majordomo Executus is completely absent.
The update itself is free, but you need to meet some requirements:
- Entry requires 90 seals.
- The first wing is designed for levels 22-24.
- The second wing is designed for levels 24-26.
- The third wing is designed for levels 26-28.
- For Ragnaros himself, your characters should be levels 28-30.
Instead of 40 players, as in the original version, you only need a friend. The Molten Core is a co-op raid that you can complete as a duo. However, the teammate must be in your guild.
If you want to check out the raid, you should hurry. The gates are open only from June 5 to June 12 at 19:59.
“The dumbest thing they could think of”
The Molten Core itself has received mixed feedback in the community, judging by the comments on Reddit. There, it is mentioned that the battles are well executed and it is fun to fight through the levels.
At the same time, it is a proper challenge. You really have to put in some effort to defeat the bosses. On one hand, that’s good because it creates tension. On the other hand, even players who have been playing since launch are having trouble making progress:
Molten Core is much harder than Stormwind. I literally do not have the levels to accomplish this and I have been playing since launch with the Bowlight booster. Can’t say how much fun it is, I am completely outlevelled.

What bothers most people is that they need a co-player. There is a missing group search tool to find a partner – or simply a solo mode for the raid.
Many guilds are not active enough to find a co-op player at any time. Some players believe that the Molten Core actually makes them play less because they can’t even see the content. Meanwhile, the “big brother” World of Warcraft is working on precisely the opposite: In WoW: You can defeat the final boss in the first raid of The War Within solo
