A player was allowed to play the new “Open Zone” in Warframe for the first time. The story is something special.
The lobby shooter Warframe has been doing well for years. The chances at the release in 2013 didn’t look so rosy. Money was tight and the studio had to improvise wherever it could.
The community manager served as the voice actress for the in-game AI Lotus. There was no money for advertising, so they relied on word of mouth.
By now, Warframe is no longer an indie hidden gem but has many fans on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Warframe plays in the concert of the big names. Especially the closeness to the community and the ongoing development of the game are highly praised.
Much applause for the Open Zone
There was particularly much attention in mid-July when Warframe presented its next update at Tennocon. To the surprise of many, it introduces a zone with an open world where players can fly around, complete quests, and defeat giant monsters.
The presentation at Tennocon was so fantastic, that major publishers should take a cue from it.
Now the first player was allowed to try this zone. He is a young man from Manchester.
Young boy with cancer finds distraction in Warframe
The British organization “Rays of Sunshine” made the contact, fulfilling wishes of severely ill children and adolescents.
Edward from Manchester fell ill with cancer a year ago and has been engaging with Warframe since then, so he has something to do while he is being treated. In less than a year, he has become a Warframe veteran with a mastery rank of 20. Together with his older brother, he has developed insider jokes.
Originally, Edward just wanted some Warframe goodies, but he received much more.
A delegation from Warframe, who are actually Canadians, set off for England and asked him if he wanted to be the first player to play the developer build with the open world of “Planes of Eidolon”.
Edward spent three hours in the new world with his Oberon Prime, gliding and shooting through the Planes of Eidolon. And it seems he had a super day with it.
The Warframe team wishes Edward a speedy recovery and says they are very moved by Edward and his passion for the game. Many lives within their ranks have also been touched and affected by illness.
