In January, Rainbow Six: Extraction marks the beginning of the gaming year 2022 for shooter fans. The new installment of the popular Ubisoft series will be a co-op shooter. MeinMMO reveals what you need to know for the release.
Extraction, formerly known as Quarantine, is the spin-off of the limited-time Outbreak event from Rainbow Six Siege. You play cooperatively against AI enemies with familiar operators from Siege.
On January 20, 2022, the release is at midnight German time.
Rainbow Six Extraction will be available for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and Google Stadia.
Upon release on January 20, Extraction will be playable via Game Pass. The shooter will also be available on Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as Ubisoft’s own Ubisoft Connect (formerly Uplay).

The gameplay of Extraction – Here’s how the new shooter plays
How does Extraction work? You start with a total of 3 characters – called operators – on a mission on one of the 12 maps available at release. Each mission is divided into 3 sections.
You must go through a research station in each section, where monsters created by an alien parasite are waiting for you. With the special abilities of the operators and plenty of coordination, you advance deeper into the abandoned complex.
The deeper you go, the harder it becomes. You will face tougher enemies and even mini-bosses. If one of your operators goes down, they remain missing until you can rescue them in another mission. Until that happens, you cannot play as them.
At its core, Rainbow Six: Extraction is a shooter and builds upon appropriate gameplay. You play with a variety of weapons, from assault rifles to LMGs to grenades and gadgets.
Is there PvP? No. Rainbow Six: Extraction is a pure co-op shooter where you face AI enemies. However, it is possible that friendly fire will be active. At least that is the standard in Siege. We will provide information as soon as we can confirm it.
If you want to compete with other players, there is an endgame mode called Maelstrom Protocol. It is extremely challenging but rewards you with unique cosmetics that you can only unlock there. Even without a leaderboard, you can show how good you are with things like golden helmets.
Editions and Buddy Pass for your co-op friends
What versions are available? Rainbow Six: Extraction will come in just two editions: Standard Edition and Digital Deluxe. While the Standard Edition only includes the game and the Buddy Pass, the Deluxe Edition additionally includes:
- the “Toxic Contact” pack with various weapon and operator skins
- the “React Strike” pack with more skins, shop discounts, and currency boosters
The Standard Edition is available for €39.99 (PC) or €49.99 (console). The Deluxe Edition costs €10 more, so €49.99 or €59.99 respectively. You can purchase the game at the official Ubisoft shop for all platforms.
What does the Buddy Pass do? Rainbow Six: Extraction will have a Buddy Pass at launch. When you purchase any version, you will receive two of these passes, each allowing you to invite a friend. Detailed information can be found in our co-op special.
Your buddy will then have free access to Extraction for 14 days. This way, you can try the new shooter in co-op and test whether you like it or invite friends to convince them. You can easily invite friends through the menu in the game itself. Invited friends can then play the game via the “Trial Version” of their platform.
