The first healer who is supposed to help you in Baldur’s Gate 3 can be found quickly in the Emerald Grove. However, the community is now discussing on reddit whether Nettie is actually a good healer. The decisive factor is a very specific scene.
Who is the healer Nettie? Nettie is one of the NPCs in Baldur’s Gate 3 that you will encounter quite early in Act 1. The dwarf belongs to the druids from the Emerald Grove and is an apprentice to Halsin.
Since Halsin is not in the Grove at this time, you will be sent to Nettie instead, who may be able to help you with your parasite.
Why is the community doubting her now? The very first scene that introduces Nettie in the game makes players doubt her abilities as a healer. In this scene, Nettie is taking care of an injured bird.
In a brief dialogue with the bird, you learn after the sequence that it is still injured after Nettie’s treatment. As a player, you even have the option to help the little creature yourself with spells or healing potions.
Exactly that is causing the community to discuss whether Nettie is actually a good healer or not. “Mewnbugg” claims in the original post on reddit that Nettie can’t really be a good healer.
However, there are quite a number of voices below that defend the learning dwarf instead. For example, “ferzerp” writes in his response: “The bird was injured in a natural way and healing it wouldn’t do much for the balance. Very druid-like.”
As a counterargument, “eabevella” claims that the bird was hit by goblin arrows, which probably is not very natural. However, this is immediately refuted by “N3rval”, who argues that goblin arrows are quite natural in this world.
In addition, other players find arguments as to why Nettie is not as bad of a healer as the scene might suggest:
- UndeadAnneBoleyn writes: “Chill, she hasn’t taken a long rest yet.”
- MrDelirious writes: “Look, sometimes you all use up your spell slots for, um… creating water and fog clouds to set the right mood for your midday bath, and you just can’t cast healing spells anymore. We do what we can with what we have!”
- JMartell77 writes: “When you later talk to Halsin about her, he clearly states that she is still learning.”
Indeed, there could be some pretty good reasons why Nettie’s attempt to heal the bird doesn’t work out. Maybe her goal was actually to heal it slowly in order not to disturb the balance.
Perhaps the dwarf just isn’t as good as most of the grove’s inhabitants have claimed.
Players would give many NPCs a bad rating
Are there any other clumsy characters in Baldur’s Gate 3? While the original post refers to Nettie, several other NPCs are mentioned in the replies who aren’t doing such a good job in the game either.
For example, “OddEstablishment9” writes: “I have no idea what qualifications you need to be a healer in this universe, but my Tav has left MANY bad reviews on Yelp.” In fact, many players agree with him and often refer to Volo, the bard, who likes to present himself as a qualified healer and can “skillfully” cut out an eye for you.
User “awkjen” also points out that Valeria is the worst murder investigator in a world where the spell ‘speak with dead’ exists.
