In The Division 2, the first players can dive into the new Summit mode starting today and try out the hope bearer before release – specifically on the test servers. However, the PTS is unfortunately only available on PC.
What is The Summit all about? Recently, the developers at Massive introduced the new game mode “The Summit”. For many, this represents the last glimmer of hope that The Division 2 can get back on track and is supposed to enhance the game with more replayability and long-term motivation.
While The Summit is set to be released with Title Update 11 (no release date yet, expected at the end of September), some players can already try out this new feature starting today. If you want to get an early look at The Summit – here’s how:
How you can try The Summit before release
How can you play starting today? Before the release, TU11 including The Summit will be available on the PTS, which are the test servers, and these go live today.
This is not the live game, so you cannot carry over any progress or items (as you might with some betas), but you can view The Summit and other new features live and help refine them if necessary.
When exactly does it start? According to Massive, the test servers are supposed to go live on September 4th, today. The developers have not yet provided a specific time, but they usually share this shortly before the start.
As soon as a start time is known for today, we will update it here on MeinMMO as soon as possible.
On which platforms are the test servers available? Unfortunately, this feature is only available on PC. You cannot preview The Summit on the consoles PS4 and Xbox One.
However, all players who own The Division 2 on PC can access the test servers.
What else will be tested? On the test servers, there will again be several phases this time, each focusing on different aspects.
In Phase 1 starting today, the following is on the agenda:
- the new mode The Summit (in full!)
- new gear (probably including the 3 new exotics)
- a new skill variant (Shrapnel Trap)
Phase 2 will then focus, among other things, on PvP.
How do I access the PTS? You will not find this feature in the live game. There is a separate client for the test server that you need to download via the Uplay launcher on PC.
Is there a preload? Yes, the preload has been active since last night. If you do not see it in your Uplay launcher, you will need to restart it.
Why have PTS at all? PTS stands for Public Test Servers – a test environment that reflects the game, but is separate from the live game.
In this special test environment, developers can let many participants test important changes in-game before they are released to the entire player community.
Depending on feedback, necessary adjustments or fine-tuning can be made and then presented to the players for re-evaluation if necessary.
In short: Developers want to ensure that as few bugs are overlooked as possible or changes are introduced that do not sit well with the agents.
