Sega, the company behind the new MMORPG Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, announced a release window for the upcoming game during a livestream. PSO2: New Genesis will be globally released in June.
What kind of MMORPG is it? Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is a sequel to the popular MMORPG PSO 2. Compared to its predecessor, the game is supposed to become more like an MMORPG.
The predecessor PSO 2 is already quite popular and runs even on low-end PCs – and completely free of charge. The successor New Genesis will be released for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
PSO 2: New Genesis offers a large Open World compared to its predecessor, where you can meet your fellow players, as well as revamped classes with new abilities. There will also be world events where you must collaborate with other players, tons of quests, and a large social hub.
MMORPG expert Alexander Leitsch predicts great success for PSO 2: New Genesis in 2021.
When can I play PSO 2: New Genesis? According to Sega, the release window for the new MMORPG is in June 2021, but no specific date has been announced yet. However, there will be a closed beta beforehand, which you can sign up for.
The beta will run from May 14 to May 16, and you can register now through the ‘Xbox Insider Hub’ app (via Xbox.com).

PSO: New Genesis – The first major MMORPG of 2021
At the moment, 2021 looks quite sparse in terms of MMORPGs. Although a new Asian MMORPG Swords of Legends Online has been announced, it will not be released until summer, thus after PSO 2: New Genesis.
From Western studios, there is still hope for New World, which, however, after several delays, will now only be released in August 2021. A beta will at least start in July.
Until the release of Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, MMORPG fans will have to be patient and make do with the games already on the market. However, there will be more options once everything arrives as promised. From June, the MMORPG year will finally pick up speed:
