The Renown system in World of Warcraft is not popular with all players. Players will be taking their time until the end of October.
For many players, the air has run out in World of Warcraft. Patch 9.1 was able to keep players entertained for a while, but many players have now completed the Sanctum of Domination raid and uncovered all the secrets of Korthia. However, it will still take a while for characters to truly reach maximum strength, as it will only be possible to raise the Renown level to 80 by the end of October.
Why is the Renown level important? Although the biggest unlocks occurred quite early in the Renown system, player power continues to grow until Renown level 80. This is because the various soulbinds of the covenants are further enhanced between levels 60 and 80. One by one, their media slots are improved, allowing them to exceed the actual maximum level.
Especially for players who are still battling through heroic or mythic raids, the Renown system can help. Each week, the character becomes a little bit better, without needing new gear, allowing Renown to assist in overcoming current challenges.
How long does the Renown system last? The maximum Renown, level 80, can be earned at the earliest on October 20, 2021. On this Wednesday, it will be the last time to collect 1,000 Anima and complete the weekly quest in Korthia. This is because you can currently earn only 2 instead of 3 Renown levels per week, as the covenant campaign has come to an end.
On the other hand, this also means: Anyone who doesn’t want to unlock their Renown bit by bit can simply wait until October 20 and then start playing WoW again to unlock all Renown levels at once. Thanks to the catch-up mechanic, it’s relatively easy to catch up to the current maximum through dungeons, Torghast, and other game content.
Will there be nothing new until then? That remains to be seen, as it is quite possible that Blizzard will release at least the small interim patch 9.1.5 by October. While it will likely not bring major new content, it could bring some minor tweaks or revive old content. It would be about time to activate the “Timewalking Legion” or bring back the Brawl Guild in Orgrimmar and Stormwind once again.
What Blizzard has planned for Patch 9.1.5 will surely be revealed in the coming weeks, as the update will likely be on the PTR soon. After all, the developers have already announced that there will be new customization options for some allied races, including Lightforged Draenei, Nightborne, and Void Elves.
It is also quite conceivable that Patch 9.1.5 will appear before reaching the Renown maximum.
Will you remain loyal to World of Warcraft during the upcoming content drought? Or will you set Shadowlands aside for a few months and dedicate yourself to other games until there is more to do?
