Directly after release, the series is being received exceptionally well almost everywhere:
- on IMDB all episodes have a rating between 8-9 out of 10 stars
- on Rotten Tomatoes the series has a rating of 93%, although there are only 59 reviews here
- IGN gives 9 points – almost the highest rating, just shy of
masterpiece
- even the Guardian praises the Fallout series and calls it
brilliant
Our colleagues at GameStar are completely thrilled with the Fallout series and provide a more detailed review. The conclusion states:
Yes, they really exist: video game adaptations where the creators have knowledge of the subject matter and respect the source material and its fans […] Not only is a well-known story revived, but the universe of Fallout is expanded with completely new facets and perspectives. The Amazon series plays not only in the world of my favorite role-playing games, but also enriches it! A film adaptation of Fallout could hardly be better, and now I feel like my colleagues: the (long) wait for Fallout 5 is now only going to become unbearable.

In addition, a dog companion named CX404 will be seen in the series.
Who is directing the series? The creators behind the series are Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, who were already responsible for the series hit Westworld. Executive producers also include staff from Bethesda, such as head Todd Howard.
Plot: How close is the series to the games and what is it about?
How close is the Fallout series to the games? The Fallout series is set in the year 2296, which is after all the games. Accordingly, the things you experienced in the games have already happened.
This is the timeline of the Fallout games:
- Fallout 76 – year 2102
- Fallout 1 – year 2161
- Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel – year 2197-2198
- Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel – year 2208
- Fallout 2 – year 2241
- Fallout 3 – year 2277
- Fallout: New Vegas – year 2281
- Fallout 4 – year 2287
- Fallout series – year 2296
However, the series has nothing else to do with the games. According to Todd Howard, the series is not just a retelling of the games, but has its own storyline. Accordingly, you will experience a new story.
What is the Fallout series about? Lucy, a resident of Vault 33, must leave her safe bunker to rescue her father. In doing so, she learns about post-apocalyptic America around Los Angeles and encounters the inhabitants of the new world: factions like the Steel Brotherhood, ghouls, and mutated creatures like RAD cockroaches and more.
In terms of atmosphere, the series is supposed to be very close to the feel of the games, offering some biting commentary on social and political issues and filled with dark humor.
Jonathan Nolan himself is, according to his own statements, a fan of the series and has played at least parts 3, 4, and New Vegas. He says one would immediately notice if the “feel of the games” is truly there. The first impression of MeinMMO author Christoph Waldboth is definitely very positive: Why I believe the Fallout series will be the next really good video game adaptation after The Last of Us
