In fact, Blue Protocol was considered a failed MMORPG that was never supposed to reach us in the West. But now the game has been revived and is set to be released here later this year.
Why is the MMORPG coming to Germany now? Many fans patiently waited for the anime MMORPG Blue Protocol until news broke in August 2024 that the global launch would never take place and the game would be shut down in Japan.
The game launched with issues and never managed to recover. The shutdown was supposed to signify the end for the ambitious project. However, the gaming giant Tencent took over the game from the former publisher and developer Bandai Namco.
Now, the developer has announced the re-release of the anime MMORPG as a spin-off for 2025 with a new trailer, showcasing exactly what it is about.
Here you can watch the trailer:
Revised Version and Mobile Variant
What has changed? Blue Protocol is now operating under the subtitle “Star Resonance,” indicating that the game has evolved from its original version. The name hides the revised version of the MMORPG.
Blue Protocol: Star Resonance is said to be a spin-off with its own revised story that takes place in the same universe as the main MMORPG. The new title is described as an action-focused version, which is evident in the battles in the trailer.
The new version is expected to deliver a vast open world full of dungeons and raids, designed as group experiences similar to those in Final Fantasy 14.
It remains unclear whether and what changes have been made to the old classes of the MMORPG. However, players should be able to choose from the classes “Heavy Guardian,” “Stormblade,” “Wind Knight,” “Marksman,” “Frost Mage,” “Verdant Oracle,” and “Shield Knight.” How they relate to the old classes is still unclear. On the website playbpsr.com, you can already see what the classes can do.
The improved version also aims to focus more on community; there will be more trading, guilds, and special events to bring players closer together. The MMORPG is expected to be released in 2025 for PC, on Steam and Epic Games, as well as on mobile for Android and iOS.
The fact that Blue Protocol is now coming to us will likely please many fans. Players have been waiting for an anime MMORPG for years. The new MMORPG Dragon Sword also aimed to fill this gap: New MMORPG reminiscent of Genshin Impact could fill the void left by Blue Protocol
