Meanwhile, many players have made a name for themselves as strong players and professionals in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone. However, a former professional sees a problem with why these players are so strong.
Who is the expert? The former pro Damon “Karma” Barlow discussed the competitive scene of Modern Warfare in a conversation with CoD streamer NAMELESS during the “Codcasts” (via Twitch).
Karma has already won the World Championship in Call of Duty three times and is counted among the best players in the world. On June 4th, he announced his retirement from eSports.
This is what Karma says: During the conversation, NAMELESS asks Karma which players he hates facing. Karma thinks for a long time and initially cannot find any concrete examples until he finally says:
“In this game [Modern Warfare]: Shotzzyy, Huke or anyone who slides. […] There are so many. Anyone who is good because they damn slide. ‘Click, Click, X.'”
With that, he refers to a method that players use, to move faster in Warzone but also to exploit certain mechanics. The “sliding” allows players to have a moment of tactical sprint when getting up and at the same time be a smaller, harder to hit target.
Right after sliding, you also get your aim faster. This allows you to aim more accurately – an advantage, which many strong players even forego certain attachments.
“This game gives false hope”
What bothers Karma so much about it? Karma does not directly address what he dislikes about the mechanic. However, from his words, it can be gathered that he apparently does not like the fact that such an approach now determines who is good and who is not.
The sliding in this form is useful in Modern Warfare for the first time to such an extent and has not been up for discussion before. It seems that Karma sees it as if the proper sliding is now more important than good aiming that can be trained with exercises, or knowledge of weapons and maps.
Especially Modern Warfare places a lot of emphasis on realism and finding the perfect setup for its weapon. For example, there are strong attachments for better aiming, which are only helpful if the weapon is also tuned to them.
Why could this remain a problem in the future? Karma continues, stating that the current professionals will probably have problems in the future – at least if the sliding system is not retained in the future or in the next Call of Duty.
This game gives false hope. […] Some of the people who are good at this game… that’s just disgusting. They better pray that you can still slide next year and do all this weird stuff. It will surely be different.
At least in the near future, sliding will likely still remain. In a look at the roadmap for Modern Warfare and Warzone, we have already shown at MeinMMO what Season 4 will bring. However, what it will look like afterward is currently only speculation.
