In League of Legends, eSports is back. To kick off the European league LEC, there are three quirky commercials on YouTube showcasing how great the league is. It features hosts and the stars of the league, including the losers of the last major final, Fnatic.
That’s why the losers shine: The first commercial of the LEC was released on June 5th on YouTube. It is a parody of a toothpaste advertisement.
Two players from the European top team Fnatic rewatch how their team was dismantled by G2 in the finals of the Spring Split on April 19th. It’s painful to watch.
The top laner Gabriel “Bwipo” Rau (21) and his support Zdravets “Hylissang” Galabov (25) have a “bad taste” in their mouths, as you can see. Only the toothpaste from LEC can help, which is introduced by the host Sjokz as a dentist.
The message is clear: The LEC is so good with its many great players that it makes everyone smile.
“And I wanted a World Championship!”
This is what the winners have to listen to: In a spot from June 7th, the best team in the LEC gets scrutinized, G2 Esports. The bot laner Rasmus “Caps” Winther gets up early and gobbles down a delicious box of “LEC” flakes. But when he asks for seconds, he’s told that he must first defeat a Chinese team and win the World Championship.
This refers to the defeat of G2 Esports in the finals against the Chinese team FunPlus Phoniex at the end of 2019. It hurt every LoL fan in Europe.
When Caps says: “But I’m hungry,” LEC caster Drakos replies: “And I wanted a World Championship trophy!”
In a third commercial, a detergent is advertised by the host “Froskurinn”: A sign of how fresh and clean the LoL league is and how painful it is to get a beating – especially when it comes from Schalke.
The LEC league starts on June 12, 2020.
This is how the commercials are received: The commercials are received excellently. They are full of little allusions and insider jokes for hardcore LoL fans. They utilize the strong personalities of the LEC casters and highlight the stars of the sport.
