Hardly had the first major expansion of Destiny 2 been released when cheeses and glitches became the big topic. Too much for Micha, who would rather play the game and find out more about the secrets of the addon.
Raid glitch, engram exploit or Telesto in the Blind Well: The news about cheeses and glitches in the new Destiny 2 expansion Forsaken never ceases. It’s a pity, really, as there is more than enough to do and report in the addon.
However, if the community knows more about glitches than about the game itself, there is a problem.
Sleepless in the Blind Well
The new PvE endgame activity Blind Well is located in the Dreaming City. It is a mix of Oryx’s Courtyard, the Archon Forge, and the Escalation Protocol, which is activated with an offering that can be found in the world or purchased from Petra Venj.
We reported yesterday about the Telesto exploit in the Well. The projectiles of the weapon contribute to the activity’s progress, allowing the waves to be completed incredibly quickly.
Although we have written that this is not a malicious exploit, it is still astonishing that hardly any Guardians can be found without the Telesto in the Well.
Things get really bad when Telesto users know about the exploit but have no idea how to defeat the boss. I encountered such jokers more often over the weekend, which quickly dampened my enthusiasm for the Well.
Bungie responds half-heartedly
A week after the release of Forsaken, a hotfix was implemented that brought some bug fixes and aimed to close some exploit holes. Specifically, it was about the raid glitch and the engram exploit.
With the raid glitch, players could already glitch into the raid in the Dreaming City even though it only opens on September 14. This allowed them to access a chest that contained raid-exclusive gear.
One player took it so far that he already looted the entire Warlock set. He seems to have used another glitch, where he only had to create a new Warlock character to reopen the raid chest with his main Warlock.
In the meantime, the chest has been disabled and is no longer accessible. The looted items, however, were allowed to be kept by the players.
Bungie is taking a slightly tougher stance on the engram exploit, which allowed the Guardians to obtain several of the typically rare Primus Engrams: Primus Engrams contain loot above the soft cap of 500 and should actually have a low drop chance.
Guardians who have used this exploit extensively are expected to receive fewer or no Primus Engrams in the coming weeks.
No player needs to fear real penalties, regardless of which exploit they used.
Community is divided
The Destiny community seems to be divided over the use of exploits:
- For some players, including among the MeinMMO readers, discovering and using glitches is part of Destiny. There is a fond remembrance of the loot cave from Destiny 1, which was similarly exploited.
- Others roll their eyes at the topic or are appalled at how much time Guardians spend looking for glitches or exploits. That time could just as easily have been invested in the game.
I myself am simply tired that news about exploits, glitches, and bugs spread faster in our community than actual gameplay. No matter where you listen, whether in Destiny streams or your own clan, the big topic is always “Have you heard about the latest glitch?”.
I would also wish for a tougher response from Bungie. It is sad enough that new exploits are constantly being found, but I find the silence even worse.
For that only leads to it becoming completely normal to use glitches in all situations, such as during the “World First” run of the Prestige mode of Leviathan.
The winning team also used a known glitch. The outcry in the community was only brief at the time and Bungie did not intervene.
