The Elder Scrolls Online has numerous issues
At that time, The Elder Scrolls Online, just like today, is in an unfinished state in many areas:
- the justice system, where players can act as robbers and cops, was only introduced in 2015 in a first phase; nothing has been heard about the next phase, which is supposed to bring Open-PvP.
- the champion points system, which was supposed to replace the veteran ranks, caused trouble throughout 2015, is to be replaced by a significantly better champion points system in early 2016, which is still running in parallel now.
- many features like the barber, structured PvP, and spell weaving have not been heard of in ages—except for a vague statement of “We have it on our radar”; instead, new topics are being opened up with catchy names like “Housing”.
Furthermore, The Elder Scrolls Online continues to be plagued by “structural problems”: In Cyrodiil, lag reigns, with the group finder, which is so essential, only serving as a stopgap; those familiar with it complain about exploits and “tricks.” Just like at the PC release, the open “Skyrim influences” pose difficulties. The game is so vast, there are so many possibilities that with every new system, tricks emerge to bypass the set limits, exploiting oversights to one’s advantage.
What new content came in 2015?
In 2015, the two DLCs Imperial City and Orsinium were particularly noteworthy.
Orsinium, the PvE add-on, is generally considered “successful.” This is the portion of Skyrim that the core audience wants to see.
On the other hand, the Imperial City, the PvP add-on, is somewhat associated with mixed feelings. Players are currently rather dissatisfied with the entire PvP aspect of the game.
What’s coming in 2016?
For the first half of 2016, The Elder Scrolls Online has planned two DLCs: With “The Thieves Guild” and “The Dark Brotherhood” two of the classic factions are set to return to TESO. Although this may sound like a continuation of where they left off in 2015, it’s not quite the case.
They do not simply want to bring “new gameplay content” but also advance the transformation of TESO from 2014 into the “new TESO”. This had been roughly outlined two years ago, and now the next steps are to be taken: They aim to finally abolish the veteran ranks, which have been causing trouble since release. A multitude of other changes are also upcoming. The first DLC, which can be expected in March, should bring new features alongside the Thieves Guild .
Even though much has taken longer than planned, The Elder Scrolls Online seems to be on a good path in 2016.
