Crossplay is a big topic among gamers. Many hope for the possibility of players on Playstation 4 and Xbox One to play with those on PC in the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online. Zenimax has now commented on this.
What do ESO players wish for? So far, owners of the PC version of the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online play among themselves, just like those on PS4 and Xbox One.
An MMORPG thrives on having a large number of players. Therefore, many ESO fans wish for crossplay between consoles and PC. It would be interesting to wander through the desert of the new Elsweyr addon together with all players.
Crossplay is a big topic
Would crossplay be an option? More and more games are offering the option to play together, regardless of platform. Destiny 2 wants to enable this, for example. Technically, it is quite possible – as long as Microsoft and Sony can agree.
It becomes problematic with the servers. The more players play together, the more the server is loaded. And ESO already has very many players, which sometimes brings the servers to their knees. Therefore, the capacity would have to be significantly increased.
PC players are using mouse and keyboard, console players are using the controller. This is problematic in fast action games like shooters, as aiming is more accurate with a mouse and keyboard than with a controller. However, in a slower MMORPG, this is less of an issue. Therefore, crossplay should work well.
No crossplay for ESO planned at the moment
What do the developers say about crossplay? Rich Lambert, Creative Director of The Elder Scrolls Online, mentioned during E3 that crossplay is currently not planned. ESO’s roadmap does not currently include this feature.
Why is there still hope? Rich Lambert also explained that the team is aware of how much players desire this feature. Additionally, the team knows that crossplay is becoming an increasingly important topic.
Therefore, it is conceivable that at some point it will be possible for all ESO players to experience adventures together, regardless of the platform they are playing on. However, this will likely take some time.
