A free trial weekend starts for The Elder Scrolls Online, but there are some gigabytes to download.
Fans of Tamriel, who might know it from Skyrim but have never tried ESO, can now check it out for free during the weekend, as long as they can manage the mega download and have a PC or a PlayStation 4 – Xbox One players will have to wait.
“Weekend” is actually the wrong word, it is an extended weekend.
On the PS4: It starts now. The gates have been open since midnight today. It ends on the night from Monday to Tuesday at 1 AM.
On PC, it starts at 7:00 PM today, ending on Monday at 9 PM.
There is access to the base game, plus 500 crowns, which can be used to shop in the game, and if you want to continue playing your hero after the trial, you can keep your progress.
There is a catch: you need 73 GB of hard disk space – that should give you a taste of how long the download will take. Patching in ESO is already feared, a complete download … is quite a task.
To download for the PS4, you can go here to the PS4 Store, and the PC players are directed to Steam. Xbox players are promised by Zenimax: We haven’t forgotten you, but you’ll have to wait a bit longer.
