The Elder Scrolls Online has been enticing since release with a feature that allows you to create your own spells and skills. Until now, spell weaving had not been seen anywhere. But now, there has been a sign of life.
Morrowind, the new chapter for ESO, will be online soon and will include the long-awaited PvP battlegrounds and a new class called Warden. However, what is still missing is the spell weaving feature, which would allow you to invent your own spells. Spell weaving has been floating around in developer announcements and user forums for years, but nothing concrete has ever been said about it.
ESO – Spell Weaving – Forever in Developer Hell?
But what is spell weaving actually? According to the information available so far, you should seek out special rune stones in the world and learn basic spells from them. You should then be able to customize them as you wish using your own crafting system with additional components. For example, by evolving a single-target spell into an AoE effect.
All of this sounds extremely cool and would fit wonderfully into the gameplay of ESO, where you explore the world and discover ancient secrets. The complex feature has always been on Zenimax’s to-do list, but it has been treated very carelessly there. Because every year, it was once again stated in official announcements that spell weaving would not come this time either.
Spell Weaving is far from dead!
Yet just when nobody really wanted to believe in spell weaving anymore, a sign of life came. A Zenimax employee posted a brief statement on Twitter: “It is not dead yet!” Below, he embedded the famous scene from the Monty Python film “The Holy Grail,” where a recalcitrant old man insists to the grave digger that he is not dead yet.
And even if in the film the scene ultimately ends unfavorably for the old man, the tweet still gives hope. Because according to the further text, spell weaving is still planned for the future of the game. Who knows, maybe you will get it as a new feature in the next expansion in 2018?
What do you think of the announcement about spell weaving? Just hot air about a feature that has long been dead? Or do you believe that spell weaving is indeed still coming, and if so, in what form? Let us know in the comments.
