A PvP event in The Elder Scrolls Online has an unusual problem: It is too popular. Players complain about lags and queues, they cannot enter their home campaigns in Cyrodiil.
We reported on the PvP event “Midyear Mayhem” in The Elder Scrolls Online. The event started on July 20 at 4 PM and runs until July 31 at 4 PM.
Too Much Mayhem in ESO
The event has an unusual problem: it is simply too popular. The event grants 100% more Alliance points, and players can also earn bonus items.

Players flocked primarily to Cyrodiil in their “home campaigns.” This caused problems.
Right on Thursday, players in the German forum opened threads like: “Thank you Zenimax, you made PvP unplayable.”
Players complained about an overcrowded Cyrodiil with lags, zergs, diashows, and queues. All the good stuff.
Even today, on Sunday, players are still complaining: “Great, I actually made it into my home campaign at 6 AM, but then got stuck in an eternal loading screen while teleporting. What a d… event.”

Campaign Structure Probably the Problem – Xarxes and Kastav as Relief
The problem is probably the structure of PvP in The Elder Scrolls Online. Even though ESO takes place on mega servers, so there are no actual servers like in WoW, such a system still exists for PvP.
The “campaigns” are different instances of Cyrodiil that players choose. ESO faces a “players are unequally distributed across different servers” problem.

Players are drawn to the campaigns where a lot is happening anyway. They were ultimately overcrowded during the event.
Zenimax announced on Thursday that they would be launching a new campaign with Xarxes, and they did so shortly afterward. A day later, on Friday, they added a second campaign with Kastav.
But many players are probably not that eager to leave their home campaigns since there are certain bonuses attached. But Zenimax has a solution.

Maintenance Work at ESO – Players Can Switch Campaigns
During maintenance this week, they want to allow players to freely choose a new home and guest campaign. Here, they hope that the influx will be better distributed.
The maintenance work for The Elder Scrolls Online this week will take place at the following times:
- On PC on Monday, July 24, starting at 10 AM
- On Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on Wednesday, July 26, at 12 PM
After the event, Zenimax will decide whether to keep Xarxes open or close it again.
