In The Elder Scrolls Online, work is being done on a faster group search and battle leveling, introducing drastic changes.
In the latest stream show of The Elder Scrolls Online, ESO Live 28, last Friday, changes to two core systems of TESO were presented with battle leveling and the new group search.
Orsinium at Level 25? Why not!
In The Elder Scrolls Online, they want to move a bit away from the idea of “levels.” This is schizophrenic because, on the other hand, the maximum level was just recently increased.

However, anyone who buys a DLC, like Orsinium now, should be able to start with it, regardless of their level. Previously, players were raised to the current maximum level. This was called “battle leveling.” This will continue to happen, but the system will be more refined.
The leveled-up hero should feel like their own
Until now, it was quite boring; everyone received the same stats at the new maximum level. It didn’t feel like playing your own character, but rather a foreign one, a template. The new system, which will go live with the Orsinium patch in November, takes into account and respects the equipment and stats of the “actual” character and adjusts the “high-scaled” version accordingly.
This applies to items as well – someone using a sword that is two levels below their actual level would, when scaled up to V16, wield a weapon with V14 stats. The quality of this sword would also be transferred. This should ensure that it feels exciting to find a blue sword of your own level in Wrothgar.
Another problem: Especially low-level players, who neither have morphed abilities nor all equipment items, have also struggled with “battle leveling” in TESO so far. Therefore, they will introduce several bonuses for them, which will then weaken at higher levels.
Attention is paid to ensure that these leveled-up players do not become stronger than “actual” VR-16 characters.
Group search – soon without level and alliance restrictions
With the new leveling-up system, it is possible to remove the level restrictions from the group search. A level 10 and a VR-16 player can team up in the same instance. The level-10 player will not be as effective, but it should suffice and be fun.
Other planned changes to the group search include:
- There will be timers to show how long you have been waiting in the queue for an instance.
- Additionally, the “alliance” restrictions will be lifted, allowing you to team up with players from any realm in instances. In the medium term, this will also apply to gameplay outside of instances. This is high on the “to-do” list.
- Furthermore, a “jump to dungeon” feature, familiar from other games, will be introduced; once the group search is successful, simply pressing “E” will jump you into the respective dungeon.
- Anyone using group search will receive a buff for more damage and higher dodging chances through this mode.
The goal of all these changes is to minimize waiting times as much as possible.
For the future, there is even consideration of allowing groups made up of 4 damage dealers. This would completely eliminate the wait queue. However, they are still in the planning phase, as this step would significantly affect the player experience.
What about arenas and battlegrounds in TESO?
By the way: There were also comments on arenas or smaller battlegrounds during ESO Live, after the Twitch chat vehemently demanded it last week.
Long-term plans are still in place, but not in the short term.
