Since Monday afternoon, the Morrowind expansion for The Elder Scrolls Online has been available for early access. The first players finished it by Wednesday and find the expansion too short for the price. They are asking: Is Morrowind worth it?
It seems that Morrowind has a quantity problem rather than a quality problem. For some PC players, the €40 Morrowind expansion has been playable since Monday. The first super fans have already completed it and that remarkably early. They are discussing their gaming experiences in the reddit forum. Is the €40 for The Elder Scrolls Online Morrowind worth it?
Although the zone Vvardenfell and the Morrowind expansion are well-received by fans, it falls short compared to previous DLCs that subscription players received for free.
30 hours of Morrowind can be very short
The ESO expansion Morrowind was announced with about 30 hours of gameplay content. And that may be accurate if you’re taking your time. However, the 30 hours of quest content can be completed significantly faster depending on how one approaches the area.
One player writes that he is an avid reader and explorer, taking his time to look at everything, wandering through the zone, exploring every bush, reading every snippet of text in the game. He estimates this duration.
Others, who play more quickly, claim: They finished Morrowind within two days while still having normal workdays during that time.
Compared to Orsinium, Morrowind offers too little for the money
The criticism is: Morrowind contains less quest content than the “Orsinium” DLC, which is generally regarded as the highlight of ESO. While the map of Vvardenfell is larger, it is not as densely populated with content. Moreover, the impassable volcano takes up a lot of space on the map – a dead area.
One calculation shows: Morrowind has 8 fewer quests than Orsinium, the same number of world bosses, Public Dungeons, and Delves.
Cost issue – Fans are annoyed that Morrowind costs extra, even with an ongoing subscription
This is also a cost issue: Many hardcore fans are ESO+ subscribers. They pay a monthly fee and receive benefits from it.
Orsinium and the other DLCs were free for ESO Plus users. Everyone has to purchase Morrowind separately; the subscription does not help here. The ESO expansion costs around €40.
With just the single player content and the quests, this cannot be justified. However: Morrowind also brings a new class, new Trials, and the PvP mode with battlegrounds.
No comparison with expansions of WoW, Final Fantasy XIV, or Guild Wars 2
In general, you can tell that the hardcore fans who have already completed it are struggling with the decision to see Morrowind as an expansion rather than as a “DLC. “
Many believe Morrowind cannot be compared to MMORPG expansions like those of WoW, Final Fantasy XIV, or Guild Wars 2. Morrowind is too small for that.
TESO Morrowind: Quality is praised
Nevertheless, some advocates argue for the content itself: Morrowind is certainly praised. The zone is beautiful, and Zenimax has done a great job of reviving The Elder Scrolls III.
In the battlegrounds and the new Trials, a type of raid, you will surely spend a lot of time as well. And the new “Warden” class also brings some hours of content. The time spent on these three aspects is hard to quantify.
There is potential here to go far beyond 30 hours.
