The MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online will gradually allow you to explore the entire continent of Tamriel – but currently, some areas are still missing. A coming area could be the island of Vvardenfell in the land of Morrowind.
Morrowind already served as the setting in the single-player RPG The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. The game is still considered one of the highlights of the series, precisely because the scenario was so extraordinary and away from the common fantasy.
Vvardenfell is a volcanic island. It is characterized by barren, almost alien landscapes. Huge mushrooms sprout from the ground everywhere, ash and sandstorms can make exploring the landscape dangerous. The culture of the Dark Elves living there is also highly interesting and different from that of the elves living in forests.
The Elder Scrolls Online: Return to “Morrowind”
Currently, Morrowind, or rather Vvardenfell, is missing in the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online. However, that might change soon. Because data miners were able to discover the map of Vvardenfell in the game files.
This seems to be an indication that this island will be introduced into the MMORPG with one of the upcoming DLCs.
The data miners explain that Vvardenfell is essentially comparable to the version from The Elder Scrolls 3. The known locations are also supposed to be found again where players remember them from the single-player part.
This might sound a bit strange, as The Elder Scrolls Online takes place about 800 years before Morrowind. However, it seems that Zenimax Online is relying on the nostalgia factor and likely wants Morrowind fans to feel at home and visit all the places they still remember.
An example of this is the port city Seyda Neen, which is a strategically important location of the empire in Morrowind. At the time of TESO, however, the city should not actually exist yet or at least look significantly different, as there was no imperial occupation back then.
The largest PvE zone
However, there are also some differences. The large city of Vivec has not yet developed as much as during the time of Morrowind, and there are some other villages that are (no longer) present in The Elder Scrolls 3. In terms of size, Vvardenfell is supposed to represent the largest PvE zone in The Elder Scrolls Online so far.
Zenimax Online has not commented on this find yet, so it is still uncertain whether and when the island will be introduced into the MMO. The “earliest date” is likely the second quarter of 2017. The update for the first quarter is already known: Homestead. The 3 other updates planned for 2017 are currently unknown. The Elder Scrolls Online aims to release four updates per year.
