The housing system of the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online is expanding. After the feature was officially announced yesterday, the developers spoke a bit more about it.
Both MMORPG.com and MassivelyOP were able to conduct interviews with the developers at Zenimax and glean some further details about the housing system of The Elder Scrolls Online. This included discussions on how large the housing instances will be. This depends on the type of accommodation. A room in a tavern can accommodate significantly fewer players than a large estate. For the latter, the developers expect about 24 players per instance.
Live rent-free
As for rent or maintenance costs for the accommodations, there is nothing to pay. You purchase the accommodation once and use it for as long as you like. However, those who are ESO+ members can furnish their homes with twice as many items. If the subscription expires, you will still be able to keep the items. These objects mainly consist of items that already exist in the game – but there are also some new things. In the future, real guild halls could find their way into the game, and it would be conceivable for the developers to offer houses that are not solely based on the architecture of the playable races.
The housing system of ESO took a bit longer because the developers first had to create an editor that allows you to freely place your furniture and decorative items in the house. Additionally, the servers had to be optimized for the extra load. For inspiration for the system, the developers did not only draw from other MMORPGs but also from games of other genres.
Live on your own island
As for the housing zones, these will only be found in the regions of the base game, as Homestead is a free update and does not require a DLC. In Cyrodiil, however, it will not be possible to build houses. And in the Crown Store, there are very special plots of land, including an island where you can settle.
Even though Homestead brings quests through which you acquire your accommodations, these are only relatively simple small stories. However, another story update is already in the works. Players can therefore look forward to Update 13.
A system to manage your own garden may be introduced at a later date in the MMORPG.
