Some weeks ago, information leaked out in a curious way that the console version for The Elder Scrolls Online would be delayed by approximately six months. This made it clear that the Xbox One and Playstation 4 versions can be expected at the earliest by the end of 2014.
When Pete Hines, representative of the PR and Marketing department, was asked about the unpleasant topic in an interview with computerandvideogames.com, he first made it clear that Bethesda is not one of those companies that release a new game every quarter. On the contrary, they take their time with new titles to focus completely on them.
Hines also emphasized again that he is personally unhappy about the release delay, but it was simply unavoidable. Now they want to use the time to sufficiently prepare the console version to provide the fans with a stable game. Unfortunately, this is not that simple because each console has its own functionality, and the TESO version would have to be tailored to it. So it doesn’t matter what the developers of The Elder Scrolls Online want – they have to abide by the rules and requirements of the console manufacturers.
As a small example, Hines mentioned the payment method. While it runs simply through the TESO store for the PC version, on consoles, for instance, one has to deal with payment transactions via PayPal. For the Playstation, everything also has to be aligned with the PSN. Thus, the developers face many other problems that still need to be resolved. You can read the entire interview here.
What do you think of this justification? Acceptable or just a stalling tactic because they should have anticipated this?
