Many groups have their clear favorites when it comes to NPCs in their campaigns of Dungeons & Dragons. However, for a game master, this love goes a bit further and influences his real life.
Whom did the game master adopt? Content creator tbdnd_ shares his unusual vacation story on TikTok. He and his girlfriend unexpectedly and very spontaneously adopted a dog during their trip. And not just any dog, as he is connected to the absolute favorite NPC of his DnD group.
It is a black mixed breed that was housed in a large animal shelter in a city they passed by during their travels. His girlfriend looked online out of curiosity to see which animals they were currently adopting, and fate took its course.
The God of Chaos, living up to his name
Why did they adopt the dog? When his girlfriend looked at the housed animals online, she discovered a dog named “Cohen”. A name that has a special significance for the game master. It belongs to an NPC who has been accompanying his group since their first campaign and has been their absolute favorite NPC for years.
They seized this stroke of fate to take a spontaneous look at the animals in the shelter. They met Cohen and immediately fell in love with him. In no time, they decided to take the black fluffball, who is probably an energetic mix of Labrador and Border Collie, home with them.
It has been over a year since they unexpectedly and spontaneously took this as a sign of fate and adopted Cohen. Cohen, the God of Chaos – is now also on the tag of the dog’s collar. Because in their campaign, he is exactly that. And even the way he came to his family does justice to his name.
Here you can admire Cohen, the God of Chaos yourself:
How is the story received by the community? Around 4,657 likes and 26 comments appreciate the story (as of: 05.11.2025, 11:00 AM). Among them are many users who are very happy for the dog and the family, but others are also curious:
- Yasmin Bock writes: “How did your D&D group react to Cohen? I need to know.”
- dewdropmakes says: “You need a big plush D20 so he can roll for the campaign.”
- Blublu remarks: “Oh dear, as the owner of a Labrador-Border-Collie mix, I can say: They are chaos incarnate, so the name fits.”
- Brian E. Bay suggests: “Now you have to include him in a campaign.”
- OmniRoll congratulates: “Sometimes you can roll a natural 20 without using a die. Congratulations!”
But not only NPCs can accompany players for many long years. Sometimes it is also special favorite dice, running gags, or themes that groups love so much that they would like to have them with them forever. For example, a player used the same piece of paper as a character sheet for several years, as you can see here: A thrifty player uses the same paper as character sheet in Dungeons & Dragons for 3 years and even amazes the community with it
