In The Division, classified gear pieces are introduced with update 1.7. The gear sets will be significantly overhauled.
The State of the Game just aired on June 22, and it was packed with information. Community Manager Hamish Bode spoke with developers from Red Storm about a new feature in update 1.7, which was previously unknown: Classified Gear.
What is Classified Gear?
Classified gear pieces are better versions of gear set pieces. This represents a major innovation as it provides numerous new build options in 1.7. The hunt for new gear pieces is set to become exciting again.
Information about Classified Gear:
- These gear pieces grant you additional bonuses for gear sets when you have 5 or 6 pieces of the respective set equipped. So far, there have only been 2-, 3-, and 4-set bonuses. The 5-set bonus increases the 2- and 3-set bonuses. The 6-set bonus modifies and improves the talent.
- You need 5 or 6 classified pieces to receive the 5-set bonus or the 6-set bonus.
- However, you can unlock the 3-set bonus by wearing two “normal” gear set pieces and one classified gear piece from that gear set.
- The classified gear definitely enhances your build. Because the stats on them are definitely higher than those on your current gear. It is therefore worthwhile to replace your previous gear set pieces with classified gear set pieces.
- You can recalibrate two attributes on the new items.

How do I obtain Classified Gear?
- The first three classified gear sets are introduced with the first Global Event. You can earn them during this event.
- Each following global event will feature three additional classified gear sets. Global events occur every month for one week.
- In the first global event, DeadEYE, Lone Wolf, and Final Measure are up.
- In the second global event, there will be Call of the Watch, Striker, and Recovery. The other sets will come in the next events.
- After a global event, the classified gear pieces will be added to the loot pool. They will become very rare random drops.
- Since classified gear essentially represents better gear set pieces, the color of these items will remain green. However, there will be a special marking so you can easily recognize them in your inventory and when they drop.

An example – Final Measure:
- 2-set bonus: +25% Exotic Damage Reduction
- 3-set bonus: +15% Protection from Elite
- 4-set bonus: Talent – When you are in the range of an enemy grenade or mortar, they get disarmed and added to your inventory. Possible every 8 seconds.
If you have four classified pieces from the “Final Measure” set equipped, you receive the same bonuses and the same talent as if you had four “normal” pieces of that set equipped (only the attributes of the gear pieces are slightly higher).
- With the 5-set bonus, however, the 2-set bonus and the 3-set bonus are now increased.
- The 6-set bonus grants you and your entire team a buff when defusing a bomb. This depends on the type of grenade. If you defuse an incendiary grenade with the talent, the entire team receives a buff on weapon damage. Another grenade increases armor when you defuse it.
Note: The bug that allows you to defuse grenades from your own team with this set will be fixed.
This is how these classified items are supposed to change the way you play. They will essentially be the new best items to hunt for.
Further information from the stream:
- All gear sets and their bonuses are being reviewed and possibly reworked. There will be bug fixes and balance adjustments.
- The “Call of the Watch” set will receive the 6-set bonus, allowing you to mark up to 6 enemies.
- Weapons like the SVD will also be adjusted. The seeker mine is also being looked at. Here, the damage of the initial explosion is to be reduced.
- All of this will be testable on the PTS, which still does not have a specific date.
- The NinjaBike Backpack is receiving an overhaul. Currently, there is a proposal to give it the bonus to act as an additional gear set piece for all equipped gear sets. For example, if you equipped pieces from 5 different gear sets and also the NinjaBike Backpack, you would receive five different 2-set bonuses. Exciting combinations should be possible.
- The gear score will not be increased with 1.7.
