In The Division, Ubisoft retracts the statement from last week that player numbers have returned to launch levels.
A few days ago, we reported on a surprising statement from Ubisoft’s Anne Blondel: Player numbers have risen back to launch levels since Update 1.4. She cited that people were so impressed with this comprehensive update and Massive’s dedication and hard work.
But now she is backtracking. Apparently, the active players are not as numerous as at launch in March 2016. Blondel explains:
This was a miscommunication – I intended to say that the numbers for The Division are trending in a positive direction again.
The Division is to follow the pattern of Rainbow Six: Siege
She admits that she should have expressed herself differently to avoid confusion. Ubisoft assumes that it is possible for The Division to follow a similar pattern to Rainbow Six: Siege, which was able to regain player numbers to the level of its launch period.
In summary, it turns out that things are not going as well as expected for The Division; however, more and more users are dusting off their agent gear. The shared-world shooter is developing in a positive direction since 1.4.
Ttime says: One problem why players are not flocking back to The Division, I still see in the long time exclusivity of paid DLCs. Only a month after Xbox One and PC, the PS4 agents receive the new game content. During this time, they can only watch others play and twiddle their thumbs. By the time the release on Sony’s console comes, all secrets and tricks will have been discovered. Anticipation or curiosity is no longer there.
With “Last Stand”, the last paid DLC of the year-1 content, this time exclusivity will be lifted. This DLC will be released in spring 2017 on all platforms simultaneously. I believe there is a chance that player numbers can return to launch levels – as long as the expansion offers exciting and extensive content.
