Massive announced a special event over the weekend. This event is not a Global Event, but a “regular” event with double rewards. There have been similar events in the past.
This special event
- started today, September 1st, at 2 AM
- and ends on September 5th at 9 AM.
The special aspect of the event: If you defeat named bosses, you will receive additional rewards. Both the tough bosses in the open world and in the Dark Zone drop extra rewards.
Extra rewards, but no secret gear sets
“This is an excellent event,” one might think.
Since the end of the first Global Event, you can only obtain the new “Classified Gear” through random drops, specifically the secret gear sets. And your best chance for that is with named bosses. These can drop Classified Gear with a 3% chance.
However, here comes the downside: The special event does not increase this 3% chance. Massive stated that no Classified Gear is included in the extra rewards pool. In other words, you will receive more loot from this event, but no more secret sets.
In the community, an event like this is met with confusion. After all, most agents are currently seeking this Classified Gear, and since the drop chances are extremely low, the special event could have been a meaningful occurrence to bring back motivation.
Special events that increase the chance for secret gear sets could make the time between Global Events more interesting. Many agents cannot understand why Massive does not implement this.
